The "KHAN ACADEMY" is a "fast-paced nonprofit startup that is backed by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Google and other leading philanthropists. Its mission is to provide a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere.

And it happened that the first MOOCs emerged from the open educational resources (OER) movement.
TED is a global set of conferences owned by the private non-profit Sapling Foundation, under the slogan "ideas worth spreading", usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less).
